200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training
Syllabus
The required 200 hours will be allocated as follows:
100 hours – techniques, training and practice.
Including asana, pranayama, kriyas, meditation and relaxation. There will be substantial emphasis on how to teach and practice the techniques and guided practice of the techniques themselves.
25 hours – teaching methodology.
Includes principals of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher and the student"s process process of learning and the business aspects of teaching yoga.
25 hours – anatomy & physiology
Includes both the human physical anatomy and physiology (body systems, organs, etc.) and the energy anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.). Includes both the study of the subject and the application of its principals to yoga practice (benefits and contraindications).
30 hours – philosophy, ethics and lifestyle
Includes the study of yoga philosophies, origins, yoga lifestyle and the ethics for yoga teachers.
30 hours practicum
Includes practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing/receiving feedback. Practice assisting and actual teaching.
Total 210 in session contact hours (required 180)
There are 210 contact hours in this training, exceeding the requirements for the standards set by Yoga Alliance (currently 180 contact hours and 20 hours homework).
Beyond the actual in-class requirements, there is also an expected amount of reading and home practice that does not count but is an essential part of this particular training. It is also strongly suggested that you take weekly yoga classes outside of the program.
